Appreciation
Perhaps my favorite shot.
One evening after we had returned from a sudden trip to the West Coast, he surprised me with these beauties. The urge to take a few too many shots defeated me. Why are flowers so aesthetically captivating? Is it the colors; the discrete forms that make one so different from another; how delicate and strong they appear to be at once...? Most likely no one attribute holds the answer. But the one element about them that strikes me the most is their reluctance for transcendence. Flowers are not transcendent beings. In fact, what they are and look like is invariably bound to time. They cannot survive the time that inheres in matter, and as they live briefly, they promise to die.
