Focus

I have been playing around with the camera's focus to see in what ways different impressions of distance and proximity can be recreated. Part of designing a particular composition involves this issue of distance, I believe. What sense of estrangement, and conversely relatedness, am I proposing between the photographed object and the viewer, after all? That is the question. Photographs, thus, always offer a thesis on visuality and gaze. What is being seen, but more importantly, perhaps, how it is being seen are the issues reigning silent in the act of every shot. What is the photo showing? And how do I want the photo to be showing it? Quite a critical act.
