Eating can be a messy affair, especially celebratory eating. Why should it be any other way? How should food and people feasting on it be photographed? How can photographs capture the fact that foods are to be ingested, masticated, and digested as they offer varying degrees of pleasure and satisfaction? Food is not just a thought, smell or taste. But matter, dense, light, complex matter that enters our mouth to offer both nourishment (the continued life of other matter) as well as interior satisfaction, and even bliss.
