At the opportune time.

Photography sometimes is about encountering a place, someone or something, just in the nick of time. When I was living in NYC, I found palm trees to be quite grotesque. The trunk seemed disproportionately long and unnecessarily svelte. The top bore branches that appeared to serve no recognizable purpose. What kind of appreciation can a tree garner when it affords no respectable shade, nor does it become a striking, splendorous sight? How then justify or make sense of their rather conspicuous presence. Neither graceful, nor purposeful, they inspired in me accented dislike rather than apathy. Now, having them so close, as they are a ubiquitous presence in the city that has become our new home, I have learned to appreciate them; perhaps, appreciate is an overstatement. I can gladly tolerate them.
